“The minute I heard my first love story, I started looking for you.”
Saturday was an absolute joy as I had the honour of photographing Jackie and David’s beautiful wedding at the stunning Manchester Art Gallery. As a Manchester wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to capture so many incredible love stories, but this one felt especially meaningful.
David, a proud Manchester native, and Jackie, originally from New Jersey, first met across the pond — and it’s there they've built a wonderful life together. Their wedding day was a real reflection of their journey: heartfelt, relaxed, and full of love. Surrounded by just 40 of their closest family and friends, many of whom made the trip from the States, the atmosphere was intimate and full of genuine emotion.
The day was also a true DIY labour of love. Jackie’s beautiful bouquet was lovingly created by her bridesmaid Patty, and David’s mum, Beryl, made delicate felted forget-me-nots by hand — such a heartfelt detail that made the day even more special. Everywhere you looked, there were personal touches that spoke to the couple’s story. Even their beloved rescue cats back home in New Jersey weren’t forgotten, with sweet little nods to them woven into the day.
The ceremony itself was a particularly touching moment. It was performed by Judith, David’s Best Woman and dear friend, who stepped in as their officiant. It was such a personal and unique touch, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Photographing these special moments, especially in a venue as elegant and timeless as Manchester Art Gallery, was a true privilege.
After the ceremony, we explored the gallery’s incredible spaces for some relaxed couple portraits. The light, the art, and the history of the building made for the perfect backdrop — a real dream for Manchester wedding photography. Jackie and David were a dream to work with too; so natural and at ease with one another, it made capturing their love story effortless. It was a day full of love, laughter, and personal touches — and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.
