Hope Mill Theatre Wedding Photography

Romantic, relaxed wedding photography in Ancoats, Manchester

Oh, Hope Mill Theatre. What an absolutely wonderful place to get married.

Hidden away in a beautiful old cotton mill in the heart of Ancoats, Hope Mill Theatre is one of Manchester's most characterful wedding venues. Exposed brickwork, gorgeous industrial details, a proper working theatre and the loveliest sense of intimacy. It's a little bit theatrical, a little bit unconventional and entirely wonderful.

As a Manchester wedding photographer, I have a particular soft spot for venues that encourage couples to do things their own way, and Hope Mill Theatre is very much one of them. Whether you're dreaming of an intimate ceremony, a big family-style feast or a dance floor full of your favourite people, there's so much scope to make this beautiful space feel entirely yours.

And, of course, with the cobbled streets and red-brick buildings of Ancoats just outside, there's no shortage of lovely little corners for wedding portraits.

Photographing weddings at Hope Mill Theatre

One of my favourite things about Hope Mill Theatre weddings is how wonderfully personal they can be. The venue only hosts a handful of weddings each year, and there's something quite special about celebrating in a place where creativity is already so much a part of its identity.

I photographed Alice and Michael's wedding here, and it was a glorious example of how lovely a wedding can be when you concentrate on the things that really matter to you.

They'd been together since they were seventeen, so their families were already beautifully intertwined. Their wedding was full of thoughtful handmade touches, including flowers they'd arranged themselves, a ceremony banner made by Alice's mum and a cake created by her sister. Add an Italian-inspired barbecue, a pub quiz and a first dance to Wolf Alice, and you've got a pretty perfect day in my book.

It also rained. Because Manchester.

But the wonderful thing about photographing a wedding at Hope Mill Theatre is that the venue has so much atmosphere of its own. The warm interiors, industrial textures and soft pockets of light all lend themselves beautifully to natural, romantic wedding photography. And when the rain eases, Ancoats is right there waiting.

My approach is always to photograph the day as it unfolds, with a little gentle direction for portraits and plenty of space for you to enjoy yourselves. I want you to remember the happy tears, the ridiculous laughter, the atmosphere and all those tiny moments you didn't even realise were happening.

Beautiful photographs, yes. But above all, photographs that feel like you.

I've been lucky enough to photograph some truly wonderful celebrations at Hope Mill Theatre, and one of my favourite things about this gorgeous Ancoats venue is how completely different every wedding feels.

Alice & Michael's romantic, handmade Hope Mill Theatre wedding

Ten years together, beautifully personal details, an Italian-inspired feast and a pub quiz. A wonderfully emotional Manchester wedding, with so much love woven into every little detail.

Hannah & Jonny's big, wild autumn wedding at Hope Mill Theatre

Nearly 140 of their favourite people, a candlelit ceremony, glorious autumn flowers, disco balls, glitter and a Kylie Minogue first dance. A brilliantly joyful celebration that made the most of the theatre's creative spirit and the industrial charm of Ancoats.
