Megan & James - A Wild & Wonderful Wedding at The Black Friar - Manchester Wedding Photographer

Oh, Megan and James. What a day!

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of photographing these two lovely humans finally tying the knot after what feels like a lifetime together, and I don't think any of us will be forgetting this one in a hurry.

October weddings are always a bit of a gamble weather-wise, but goodness me, we really were treated to the full autumn experience. Rain, gale-force winds and the sort of weather that makes you question whether stepping outside is entirely sensible. Not exactly ideal for wedding photographs, but thankfully Megan and James were wonderfully relaxed about the whole thing, and we had SUCH a lovely time.

We started the day at St Hilda's Church in Bury before heading over to The Black Friar in Salford for the celebrations. I've photographed quite a few weddings at The Black Friar now, and it's such a gorgeous little place, particularly when the weather isn't playing ball.

With outdoor photographs pretty much off the cards, we got creative indoors instead. Group photographs, portraits, lots of lovely little moments tucked away in the pub's beautiful spaces. Sometimes being forced to rethink your plans leads to something rather wonderful.

And then there was the confetti!

Our original plans for a confetti photograph outside the church had been thoroughly scuppered, but a very thoughtful family member had been saving dried rose petals especially for the occasion. We couldn't possibly let them go to waste, so just before the first dance we gathered everyone into the tavern for an impromptu confetti tunnel.

It was brilliant. A little bit chaotic, very romantic and absolutely worth the change of plans.

The speeches were another enormous highlight. Megan's dad, James and his sister (and best woman!) Emma all delivered the most wonderful mix of heartfelt and hilarious. Emma's speech in particular had me in absolute hysterics. I LOVE a wedding where everyone feels completely comfortable being themselves, and this was one of those days.

By the time the band started, the dance floor was already packed, and I left everyone having the most fabulous time.

A gorgeous, properly autumnal wedding, full of laughter, happy tears, brilliant people and a fair bit of improvisation.

Megan and James, thank you so much for having me. What a bloody lovely day.

If you're planning a wedding at The Black Friar in Salford and looking for a Manchester wedding photographer who'll happily embrace whatever the day throws at us, I'd love to hear from you!
