Lucy & Ben - A Heartful, Joyous Wedding at Stockport Town Hall - Stockport Town Hall Wedding Photography
Oh, Lucy & Ben. I don't think I could love these two any more if I tried.
Fifteen years together, ten years engaged, one wonderful eight-year-old son and absolutely no desire to make their wedding anything other than a celebration of the life they've already built together. Honestly, MY HEART.
I joined them at their home in Heaton Norris, where they were getting ready together with their gorgeous boy Albert, Lucy's sister Emma and niece Romy. No elaborate separate preparations or big dramatic reveal, just a house full of people who love each other, getting ready for a rather important Thursday.
And it was perfect.
A Beautifully Emotional Ceremony at Stockport Town Hall
If you've never been inside Stockport Town Hall, you really must. It's an absolute beauty, with its magnificent marble staircase and grand Edwardian architecture. A rather spectacular place to get married, actually.
And walking down that iconic staircase, accompanied by eight-year-old Albert, was our gorgeous bride Lucy.
COME ON.
Their ceremony, witnessed by just 50 of their closest friends and family, was full of warmth, laughter and more than a few happy tears. There was also a very special person missing. Lucy and Emma's dad sadly passed away, but his presence was felt so strongly throughout the day, in the stories people told and the enormous love this family clearly has for one another.
One of those days where you find yourself feeling incredibly lucky to be invited into somebody else's world.
A Vintage Bus to Stomp Coffee House, Heaton Moor
After the ceremony, we made the most of Stockport Town Hall's gorgeous surroundings for some portraits before everyone piled aboard a vintage double-decker bus to Stomp Coffee House in Heaton Moor.
And honestly, what a brilliant choice for a wedding reception.
Everything about Lucy & Ben's day had been so thoughtfully chosen. Not because they felt they should do things a certain way, but because those were the things that meant something to them.
No first dance, for example. Instead, we were treated to some absolutely hilarious, wonderfully heartfelt speeches, including the most BEAUTIFUL surprise poem from Ben, celebrating their fifteen years together and the life they've made.
I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. Mine included.
A Wedding Full of All the Right Things
After an enormous feast of nachos (excellent wedding food, by the way), the music was turned up, the dance floor was buzzing and I reluctantly said my goodbyes.
Lucy & Ben are, without question, two of the loveliest people I've had the pleasure of photographing. Their wedding was unpretentious, deeply personal, ridiculously good fun and full of the sort of love you could almost reach out and touch.
By the time I left, there was so much of it in that little room that I genuinely wondered how the walls were managing to hold it all in.
What a privilege. What a pair. What a DAY.
Planning your own Stockport Town Hall wedding? I'd absolutely love to hear what you've got in mind. Big, small, traditional or wonderfully unconventional, I'm always happiest photographing people having the time of their lives with the people they love most.
