Laura & Luke - A Beautifully Chaotic Rainy Manchester Wedding - Manchester Wedding Photographer
“A thing that you see in my pictures is that I was not afraid to fall in love with these people.”
If there’s one thing about Manchester weddings, it’s that they can keep you on your toes. And Laura & Luke’s wedding day absolutely did that from the very first minute. As a Manchester wedding photographer, I’ve learned to expect a little unpredictability from this city… but when I arrived to thunder cracking overhead and torrential rain hammering down, even I had to laugh.
The original plan was beautifully simple: wander across the city together, photograph the two of them in some iconic Manchester spots, soak up the atmosphere and make the most of the city they love. Manchester, however, had other ideas.
We began by sheltering in a corridor somewhere in the city centre while rainwater bounced dramatically off the pavement outside. Honestly, it felt slightly cinematic. We tried to get creative while hiding from the chaos and, thankfully, Laura & Luke are exactly the kind of couple who can laugh through absolutely anything. Eventually, we admitted defeat, abandoned our walking plans, and started hopping in and out of cabs to get between locations without becoming entirely waterlogged.
And honestly? It somehow made the day even more memorable.
We headed over to Castlefield and photographed beneath the railway bridges, making the most of the industrial textures and moody skies that make Manchester wedding photography so distinctive. The city felt dramatic and alive around us, and Laura & Luke just rolled with every twist the day threw at them.
Then there were the shoes. Poor Laura’s beautiful wedding shoes literally began disintegrating mid-wedding, resulting in an emergency roadside repair involving tape and a lot of hysterical laughter. Nothing was truly going to plan, but somehow that made the whole day feel even more joyful and real.
Their ceremony at Manchester Registry Office was intimate and lovely, with just 12 of their closest family members there to celebrate alongside them. It felt warm, emotional and completely centred around what mattered most: the two of them.
And then, finally, the Manchester skies relented. The rain cleared, the clouds lifted, and actual sunshine appeared just as we walked over to 20 Stories for an afternoon of private dining, relaxed celebrating, and a well-earned exhale.
I absolutely adored this wedding. Laura & Luke are the kind of couple who make every moment feel easy and fun, even in absolute chaos. And although I’ll admit I was initially slightly intimidated photographing a fellow photographer (Luke!), I truly didn’t need to be. I felt trusted, encouraged and supported every step of the way.
A rainy Manchester wedding, taped-up shoes, thunder, sunshine and so much laughter. Honestly? Perfect.
